Unless you need to be online, just play your game offline, then instead of shutting the system down, go to the Update Firmware from XMB. Before it starts downloading it will ask if you want to automatically shut down when the download is complete. Turn your TV off and leave it, the PS3 will download and install the update, then shut off on its own.

I just looked at the product page, and it says that it comes with some exclusive levels for Kinect Adventures and a couple other exclusive things.

At the bottome of the page, "customer favorites".
As of the time I looked at it, Kinect is actually #4. Right after the "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2" Strategy guide.

Edit: Looked again. It is #4 on Customer Favorites, but there is also a "Top Sellers"...

I don't expect it to be very deep, but it does look like fun to me.

Buying that used copy of Bayonetta doesn't help either. Neither does selling it back to the store for another person to buy. Gamestop loves you for doing that, but the publishers and developers don't, and, like you said, may choose to switch their resources to more profitable audiences.

This article is saying that while you might not like Kinect, it's not being put out for you, it's being put out for the same crowd that bought Wii Fit. There's a lot of money to be gotten from those people, and Microsoft knows that Kinect isn't good enough for core games, so they are putting out Kinect to capture those casual players and figuring that the core gamers will be content to stick with Halo and Gears of War.

I think the idea of Kinect is way ahead of the technology (read: it doesn't work as well as it should), but you are absolutely right that MS is not targeting the "hardcore gamers." Kinect is all about family time fun. Kinect Adventures will be fun for people playing with their relatives at Christmas, and extremely boring for the person playing alone. The hardcore gamers are upset because they got excited about all the things that "Project Natal" could bring to their...

I think this article has some good points, but I disagree with something MS has been claiming about Kinect. It doesn't really REMOVE the controller barrier, it just moves it back a bit. The crowd that will be playing Kinect games will still feel alienated by any game that puts a controller in their hands. Kinect will add casual gamers to the 360's install base, but it will not convert them to playing Halo or Gears of War. There will effectively be 360 gamers and Kinect gamers, wit...

Because I can only enjoy things based on how popular they are. I don't care how well it works or what it does, I only care how many other people own it. /s

In all seriousness, I expect Kinect to sell very well, at least initially, but I think Move is the better product for what it does. Kinect has the "wow factor", but Move just works really well.

Just with R2 instead of L2. I got that spring out and it snapped. I didn't even think to switch with my old sixaxis, but with how easily that snapped, I would have probably ended up completely controllerless. Got a replacement coming from Amazon now.

Kinect Sports, Kinect Adventures, and I think Dance Central are going to be $50 according to Major Nelson. I don't think they have officially said what the rest will be, but it's safe to assume $60 since he specified only those games.

First party Sony games for Move will be $40, but other publishers can probably set their own prices, though they will probably be in line with what Sony does.

The casual crowd (whom this is clearly targeted at) will likely never sign into the XBox Live Marketplace (or whatever it's called), so they just need enough space for game saves. 4 Gigs is enough for them.

But, unless i'm mistaken, Europe usually gets stuff at higher prices. I think they usually pay in Euros what America pays in dollars, i.e. if it is 150 Euros in Europe, it will most likely be $150 in the States.

"We've found that when we talked to consumers about the different types of experiences you get with Kinect, the sensor with the full game at £129.99 does quite well. "

Is that when you talk to them about the experiences possible, or when they have actually tried it and seen what it actually does? People loved Project Natal's possibilities, a lot of people are disappointed with Kinect's reality.

I am really hoping that developers do that pseudo-3D effect in games. It can be done with just any camera with the right software, though. There is video of head tracking being done on the PSEye, and Gran Turismo 5 does it, too.

I want to get that at some point, but i have such a backlog right now. When i finish with Demon's Souls, I move on to Dragon Age. By the time i'm done with those, FF XIII might be down to $30.

But it is something that developers can work around with the right games. For example, that hurdle racing game from Kinect Sports lights up the hurdles to tell you when to jump.

The person above is not Element-X. Notice the 1 in the name. This account was created less than an hour ago, apparently partially to make fun of the real Element-X because he is gay.

The lag on this game seems minimal compared to the others. I wonder if Kinect can increase its responsiveness by only tracking certain body parts. It would be quicker if it can track only the arm compared to tracking the whole body. A question, though: Is it really spin being put on the ball? I didn't notice any arc to the balls path. It looked to me like it was just rolling diagonally rather than having spin.

Edit: Watched it again and it does look like he was gett...
